To help your buying decision, we’ve evaluated all the good, the bad, and the just-okay, so you can have the full story. A freestyle board should handle many varying conditions with equal levels of performance – so what does our review have to say about this model?

According to our observations, it’s lightweight, great on powder, and stable at high speeds. However, it was also noted as being – perhaps – ill-suited to beginners.

What does that mean for intermediate to expert snowboarders? Let’s take a closer look at the Salomon Huck Knife Snowboard and find out.

Features

Profile

The Salomon Huck Knife Snowboard has a quad camber profile. That’s a new term, isn’t it? Don’t worry – it is the brand’s fancy way of describing a rocker/camber/rocker profile.

This includes a camber in the board’s middle and a rocker on the tips and tails. In practice, the board will be unsinkable, fast-paced, more forgiving, and deliver great pop.

Flex

The Huck Knife snowboard has a medium flex. As such, the design is centered in the middle between a really firm, stiff board and a super flexible, loose board. That’s what most riders prefer!

On the slopes, this provides a responsive ride and allows you to maintain control without being overly aggressive.

Core

To enhance its performance within soft or powdery conditions, the core is made of FSC certified aspen wood. Each strip is uniquely chosen by Salomon to ensure it is lightweight and of the best quality.

As such, you can float across newly fallen snow or hike up the mountain without being weighed down.

Laminates

The Salomon Huck Knife Snowboard is constructed with two different laminates: triax glass and biax MD. How do these serve you?

The triax glass is a combination of fiber and glass. This increases the board’s durability and ensures your investment lasts from season to season.

The biax MD is a medium-density fiberglass that is layered with the triax glass, making it lightweight and poppy. With both of these laminates allied together, you can float seamlessly, while also holding up against rough terrain.

Base

The Salomon Huck Knife Skateboard has a sintered base, which is developed by placing P-tex pellets under great force and fusing them together. These sheets of thoroughly sealed material are then cut into the shape and thickness necessary for the board.

In practice, this base enhances speed across power and hard-packed snow, retains wax more efficiently and is strong against the hardest-packed snow or terrain.

Without any grains or gaps to struggle with, you’ll find it handles well over time.

Sidewalls

Salomon uses Slingshot Sidewalls on the Huck Knife snowboard. As such, the manufacturer puts carbon inlays on each side of the board, boosting its stability and power without sacrificing the easy-to-control design.

Since you’ll be charging through varying conditions with a freestyle board, this unique feature helps keep you well-equipped for the job. There’s no danger of wiping out or feeling unsteady.

Edges

Salomon uses Freestyle Bevel edges on their Huck Knife board. These edges detune the tip and tail, give it a two-degree bevel in the primary contact area, and provide a three-degree bevel between your feet. That sounds fancy – but how does it help?

This feature improves your ability to makes spins and tricks. Furthermore, it provides a strong point of contact with the board and the snow at all times, so you have a stable ride.

The Positives

Incredibly Lightweight

We really loved the lightweight design of the Salomon Huck Knife Snowboard and we know you will too!

This is, in large, part due to the wood core and laminates. Salomon built this model with the strongest but lightest materials they could. As such, there’s no danger of sinking in powder, struggling to maneuver around the slopes, or needing extra effort to perform tricks.

This snowboard won’t weigh you down, making it easy for riders to keep these on their feet. Your body will be less tired at the end of your day as a result, and it won’t be a hassle to lug these around at the end of your sessions.

What’s best is that its lightweight construction doesn’t mean that you’ll find its performance lacking. In fact, this type of construction makes for a better freestyle ride overall.

Very Stable Ride

The Salomon Huck Knife Snowboard is also very stable. Due to the medium flex, the Slingshot sidewalls, the Freestyle Bevel edges, and the quad camber profile, you won’t feel insecure or out of control with this board.

Since the freestyle design should fit almost every terrain and varying speeds, these assets work together to provide a smooth, secure ride. This allows riders to stay upright in a variety of conditions, keeping their confidence on a high no matter what.

A stable ride also means you’ll have fewer chances of wiping out, making it easy to grow your skills. And since there’s less chance of feeling wobbly on this Salomon, that means fewer chances of accidents too.

Awesome Float

Speaking of stability, we’re happy to report that this snowboard offers almost perfect float on light, powdery snow.

Thanks to the low weight and the quad camber profile, you aren’t struggling with unnecessary materials that push you down into the slope or burden your feet. The rocker on the tip and tail also ensure the board won’t dip into drifts and get you stuck.

If you prefer your conditions light, this model can fit the bill. You’ll really be able to get out and enjoy fresh, fluffy conditions without worry of your board not being able to keep up. You’re sure to have some fun on powder with the Salomon Huck.

Amazingly Quick

While this isn’t the fastest snowboard available, we definitely have to note how well it rode at high speeds. The quad camber profile and the sintered base almost guarantee this.

You’ll be flying across the slopes and, with the help of the edges and sidewall, there’s no danger of losing any of your stability at faster paces. Speed is great, but if it makes the ride bumpy, it may not be worth it. That won’t be a problem with the Huck Knife.

If you like to chase your friends down the slopes or turn into a speed down when your board hits the snow, the Huck Snowboard is definitely one to keep up with you. It will remain stable at high speeds causing minimal vibrations on your board, and less exertion on your body.

Super Poppy and Extremely Durable

There’s a high chance you’ll love the poppy nature of this board during jumps, rails, jibs, and other tricks at the park.

It has enough flex, responsiveness, and forgiveness so that when you land, you don’t feel as much of the impact in your legs and knees. As such, you’ll be able to ride for much longer.

You’ll be sure to have some fun when taking this to the park and you won’t have to worry about taking it easy. Thanks to the sintered base and the laminates included in the construction of this snowboard, you won’t have to replace it after a season or two. It was built to last.

As such, whether you’re charging through hard-packed, cruddy, icy snow or only take it through powder, it won’t absorb the typical wear and tear. It’s a long-term investment designed to last several years without repair.

Really Versatile

Speaking of versatility, all of the above positives make the Salomon Huck an awesome board to grow with. Thanks to its versatile build, durability and poppiness, it’ll be hard to be bored.

There’s a variety of conditions and places you can take this board and it will perform superbly. This is great for the rider who wants to tackle it all.

From ice and crud to powdery snow, this freestyle board will be like a Swiss army knife, adapting to your surroundings and needs. Thanks to this board’s responsiveness, maneuverability will be incredibly easy, making it easy to have the Huck respond to your wishes.

The Negatives

Not for Beginners

While the Salomon Huck Knife Snowboard is easy to maneuver, responsive, and forgiving, it demands a rider with some skill; otherwise, you may have a frustrating experience. It is not for a beginner.

The Huck Knife needs a pretty aggressive rider to leverage its full potential, and a beginner simply lacks the know-how to make it perform optimally.

Luckily for beginners, there are several, more basic boards to choose from on the market. It’s best to work your way up to the Huck Knife before diving in – this way, you’ll not only avoid disappointment but injuries too.

Overall Verdict

After looking through all the positives and negatives, we do recommend the Salomon Huck Knife Snowboard. The positives far outweigh the negatives here.

So long as you aren’t a beginning rider, this board is quick, lightweight, poppy, and durable. It’s certainly not a board you will be replacing season after season.

If you’re in the market for a new board to leverage on any terrain, you can’t go wrong here.
