Well, no skis are without flaw – and to make the best buying decision, you need all the good and the bad. That’s why we’re here. Some riders might find them a bit sluggish when turning, and we should warn that they won’t be suited to beginners.

That said, you’ll need all the details for a final verdict. So before you make your final decision, let’s take a closer look at the Dynastar Legend X96 Skis. They may surprise you!

Dynastar Legend X96 Skis: The Details

In a Nutshell

  • Lengths: 171, 178, 186 cm.
  • Sidecut: 132/96/112 mm.
  • Profile: Rocker/Camber/Rocker.
  • Turn Radius: 17 meters.
  • Level: Intermediate to Advanced.
  • Type: All-mountain/downhill skis.

Features

Profile

The Dynastar Legend X96 Skis has a rocker/camber/rocker profile. This means the tip and tail of each ski are curved slightly upwards.

Additionally, where you put your feet is slightly convex, so when your weight settles, it flattens the skis to provide better contact with the snow.

This profile adds playfulness to the set and creates an excellent float, so you can cleanly glide across powder. As a plus, it makes the skis damp and provides maximum edge grip, so you’re guaranteed a stable ride.

Sidecut

The Legend X96 skis have a five-point sidecut, which moves the skis’ widest point closer to the binding than you might find in other sets.

This sidecut allows for greater maneuverability and precision but also ensures these skis are great for floating on powder.

Core

The core of the Legend X96 skis is made of Paulownia wood. In practice, this makes the set very lightweight, so they’re perfect for skiing across even the lightest powder.

You don’t have to worry about sinking in or lugging heavy skis up the mountain.

Despite this lightweight design, the wood core is also strong enough to avoid breaking or instability – no matter the conditions. The set will definitely last for more than one season.

Sidewalls

The Dynastar Legend X96 skis come with full ABS sidewalls. They run vertically along the full length of each ski.

These sidewalls give the set excellent edge grip, help provide greater precision in your movements, and give you power when shredding through rougher terrain.

The sidewalls also help keep the skis balanced, so you never feel insecure while aiming downhill.

Laminates

Dynastar uses fiberglass laminates in the construction of their Legend X96 skis. The layers of fiberglass are woven inside the core of each ski, making them lightweight while still ensuring good performance in various conditions.

With a thick weave, greater strength is added. As a result, the skis remain stable no matter how many bumps or moguls you run across.

The Positives

Provides a Super Stable Ride

According to our observations and feedback, the Dynastar Legend X96 Skis are definitely super stable.

The inclusion of the fiberglass laminates, the rocker/camber/rocker profile, and the ABS sidewalls ensure you gain a secure ride no matter the terrain. There’s no danger of sliding around or feeling wobbly as you charge down the slopes.

Stable skis are important in ensuring the rider stays upright. Not only that but having a pair of stable skis under your feet on the slopes means you’ll have less worries of wiping out, only building your confidence out on the snow.

As a result, you’ll be able to glide on snow like a superstar! And, as a bonus, your body will thank you since it will take far less effort to have a steady ride on stable skis. Now you can spend longer days out on the snow without feeling super sore the next day.

Excellent Edge Grip

You may have guessed by now – but Dynastar’s Legend X96 skis have amazing edge grip.

The rocker/camber/rocker profile and the sidewalls heavily contribute to this feature. As such, when you turn, carve, or maneuver around different obstacles, the edges of your skis will grip the snow tightly.

This prevents wipe-outs, slips, or slides and allows you to perfect maneuvers with ease. The skis will catch the snow to keep you upright for a smooth, continuous ride.

This aids in making this pair of skis more forgiving overall and skis that are easy to maneuver make for a much more enjoyable day on the slopes.

Amazingly Damp

We also loved how damp the Legend X96 skis are. The rocker/camber/rocker profile is what contributes to this the most. You don’t have to worry about feeling any vibrations or chatter through the board no matter what type of terrain you’re skiing on.

After a long day of skiing, your knees will thank you for this. You won’t be jumping or jerked around if you ski on cruddier snow with these skis. This results in fewer sore muscles so you can get back out on the snow the next day with ease.

This also makes the Legend X96 skis super versatile in their performance and where you can take these for a day on the snow.

If you’re an all-around skier who likes to bounce between conditions, or who wants a pair of skis that they rarely have to switch up, you might find the perfect pair with these Dynastar skis.

Enjoyably Lightweight and Awesome on Powder

Based on our feedback, these skis are particularly great on powder this is in part thanks to how light these skis are.

Their lightweight design helps to prevent sinking, and with the rocker/camber/rocker profile, the tips of each ski won’t nosedive into the snow and get stuck. You’ll float right across the slopes with no problem at all.

You’re bound to have a ton of fun with these skis when out in deep snow, and thanks to their lightweight build, they certainly won’t slow you down. Lightweight skis are great for taking out on long days since you won’t have to put too much effort into their performance.

They make it easy on your body whether you’re flying down the mountain or lugging your gear back to the chalet. The Paulownia wood core and the almost weightless fiberglass laminate ensure you never feel weighed down while riding across the slopes.

This design also contributes to why these skis operate delightfully on powder, with an excellent float. They aren’t heavy enough to sink into even the softest snow. You’ll barely feel them on your feet, ensuring they’re easy to maneuver.

Outstandingly Powerful and Speedy

Just because these skis are lightweight doesn’t mean they lack power. We’re happy to report that these skis can charge through the cruddiest or iciest of snow without too much chatter.

Your’ ride will be just as smooth when skiing across groomers or powder which is great when it comes to having a pair of versatile skis. If you’re looking to power downhill without sacrificing your knees, these are an ideal set for you. They’ll respond well to aggression without making you pay for it later.

Speaking of aggressive skiers, if you have a need for speed, look no further. Because they are so lightweight, nothing is present to slow you down when it comes to the Dynastar Legend X96. .

Whether you want to race your friends down the mountain or just speed across the slopes, the Legend X96 skis will have you flying smoothly. As a plus, they won’t lose stability or dampness at higher speeds, so you aren’t forced to temper your inner speed demon.

Skis that respond well to both power and speed are sure to be a blast during any ski season.

The Negatives

Slow When Turning

The edge grip makes sharp turns effective – but only if you place some aggression behind this motion. Otherwise, we did notice that the Dynastar Legend X96 Skis were quite slow when turning.

They may drag a bit which can also make exiting turns difficult. If you don’t want to stop or lose a great deal of speed, you’ll need to be heavy-handed. This is especially true when riding on tougher terrain.

Not for Beginners

As such, we’ll also warn that these skis may also be ill-suited to beginners. You need to be an aggressive rider and that style requires prior experience.

A new skier simply lacks the advanced skill to force this set into performing at its best. Anyone at an intermediate to advanced level will love these skis, however, as they reach their full potential with a bit of guidance.

If you’re new to skiing, it’s best to pass on these skis or wait until you’re at a higher skill level to add these skis to your winter sports arsenal.

Overall Verdict

After going over all the positives and negatives, we do recommend the Dynastar Legend X96 Skis.

They provide a stable ride, keep you secure on the snow with great edge grip, are damp enough to save your knees the abuse, and can power through nearly any terrain. They even remain stable at high speeds. What more could you need?

So long as you’re an advanced skier who is willing to push harder during turns, you shouldn’t have any problem with this set. The Legend X96s should definitely be on your list the next time you shop for skis.
